Introduction
The Victorian Sailing School has endorsed and adopted as policy the Department of Education and Training (DET) guidelines relating to dinghy sailing on days of high wind strength. This policy should therefore be read in conjunction with the recommendations contained within those draft guidelines.
Policy
Any warnings issued for Port Phillip and Western Port Bay by the Bureau of Meteorology for forecast wind strength exceeding 20 knots, will result in the suspension of dinghy-sailing activities for that session. (ie - when a Strong Wind Warning is issued)
The suspension will be reviewed as forecast updates become available during the day.
On occasions of suspended dinghy sailing, ‘Dolphin’ open-trailable yachts - skippered by Sailing School staff, may be substituted at the discretion of Sailing School staff.
Please note, however, that Dolphin sailing will not take place in wind strength at, or in excess of 30 knots.
All sailing activities will be suspended when a Gale Warning is issued
